Recreational sports leagues are swinging, dribbling, putting, etc. their way into the summer season. Civic-minded businesses lend their name and sponsorship dollars to local youth teams. I fondly remember Noto Lumber web design, Moffat Coal, and Black Diamond Trucking as erstwhile sponsors of the South Scranton Little League. The macho Lumberjacks, Miners, and Truckers found instant respect on the playing fields. The Kathy's Kut and Kurl team found mockery and disrespect. "Strike three! One wonders if those unfortunate summer students remaining on college campuses are allowed to organize intramural sports leagues. If so, they would probably represent academic departments and would have to come up with appropriate team names. The Chemistry Dept team might be known as the "Bunsen Burners", fast and hot voip. The Business School team might opt for "Vandelay Industries", a homage to "Seinfeld's" fictional company with extra credit if they can obtain a government bailout because they are "too big to fail". American Literature majors might band together as "The Sound and The Fury" using Faulknerian stream of consciousness to intimidate their foes. Journalism students, realizing romance and tabloid are the sole remaining profitable literary genres, will have the choice between "The Seduced and Abandoned" and online payments "Katie Fears Tom Cruise Is An Alien." Of course, the Psychology Department team would be known as "The Complex Oedipals".
