Dear Jennifer,
Thank you so much for your quick response.  We are in the early stages of planning this event.  What I can tell you is that our multicultural week runs from January 20-January 23, 2009.  The teachers for each grade decide what kind of events they want and how much time they can devote to their country.  Then the week ends with a schoolwide assembly where we try to highlight the various countries that each grade has studied.  I will meet with the teachers and see what kinds of activities they would like this year.

Our theme is "A School Like Mine."  The idea is to compare and contrast how students in various countries go to school and to get a glimpse of a typical day in the life of a child.  We also hope to write to a school from each country.  If any of your members can talk about their schooling in the Philippines or show photos, that would be great.  If we had an address or e-mail from a school in the Philippines, we could start a pen pal letter.  Also, the students always love to see traditional dress and hear traditional music from the countries they study.  Our music teacher introduces tiniklin so that would be a great dance to have demonstrated.  I e-mailed Mr. Ponce about this type of demonstration, but I didn't hear back from him yet.  Our music teacher, Miss Bowman, gave me his e-mail address.  Do you work with him in your organization?

We have a mom from the Philippines who is willing to cook some traditional food for the kids.  That's always a big hit!

Please let me know what type of fees are associated with your group coming out.  Unfortunately we are working with a limited budget.  Our main goal is to get the kids exposed to as much of the Filipino community as possible.  I understand that there is some type of celebration at the Dublin Rec Center on Dec. 6th.  I'm going to try and attend to learn more about the Philippines.  Is this an event that you would attend?  If so, I look forward to meeting you there.

I will send more information as soon as I have details about timing, etc.  If you want to send me examples of the types of things you present, we could go from there.  Again, I appreciate all of your help.  This is always a great week for our kids and each year it keeps getting better and better.  Barb Nelson
